The Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology has been established with the following objectives: producing highly qualified, scientific and technical personnel to meet the country’s requirements; conducting state-of-the-art scientific and technological research and development in support of the private and public sector; providing hi-tech scientific and technological assistance to the Pakistan industry to enable it to compete with the world industries in global trading; providing highly trained scientific and technological personnel to be able to attract the growth of high-tech industries and foreign and Pakistani investment; and providing a sound socio-economic and scientific base and infrastructure to Pakistan to be able to meet the economic and technological challenges of the 21st century.

Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology Organization, Non-Profit organization certified by Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP). Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) was initially registered on September 17, 1989 in the Hyderabad region under the Societies Registration Act 1860. Soon after due to the change of office premises from Gharo District Thatta to Karachi, the amended certificate of registration was issued at Karachi on 27 April 1992 by the Provincial Assistant Registrar, Joint Stock Companies, Sindh Karachi.

Afterward, on 28th September 1995 Sindh Assembly passed the bill of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology Act 1995, and same was assented by the Governor of Sindh on 18th October 1995 and published as an Act of the legislature of Sindh in the Gazette of Sindh dated 25th October 1995. Therefore, SZABIST is a fully Chartered Institute established through a Legislative Act of Sindh Assembly (Sindh Act No. XI of 1995).
